I am on vacation in Costa Rica and would like to bring some cute alcohol bottles home with me for souveniers for friends and family. I know there is a limit on how much I can bring in without having to pay taxes or without getting in trouble but I am having trouble finding that information. Any help would be much appreciated.

You should ask the police. When you board your plane, make sure you let the plane director know that you are not smuggleing (lol) tell them exactly why you want to bring them to USA, and I am sure they will allow it.

For duty free items brought back to the United States, the limit is $800 per person. Period. It doesn’t matter what it is, either.
As long as the seals are not broken on the bottles, you should be just fine. If the seals are broken, you’ll have to either pitch it, or drink it. (What a shame if you have to drink it, eh?) Just be sure to pack them in a way that they won’t be broken during handling by the gorillas that work for the airlines. (Like in your sneakers or something)
If you haven’t purchased $800 or more of anything, I doubt they’ll even look at your customs card. They tend to just look at the amount and set the card in a pile. If it’s more than $800, then they’ll get picky with you.
Have a safe trip home. I hope you enjoyed your stay in Costa Rica. =o)
